LIHEAP Program

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists all eligible federally recognized tribal members with energy costs. Applicants must live within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation jurisdictional area and meet income guidelines. It may take up to 90 days or longer for the application and payment to be processed. All applicants are encouraged to keep paying their utility bills.

Citizens must complete an application each season. All applications must be completed online via the Camphouse Portal.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. An applicant may apply on behalf of a minor child that is a member of a Federally Recognized Indian tribe. Proof of custody or residence verification of the qualifying minor child may be required.
  2. Applicant/head of household must reside in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation service area.
  3. Households must have not received LIHEAP assistance through DHS, or any other agency providing LIHEAP funds. (Including tribal towns.)
  4. Households must meet income guidelines.

Basic Required Documents

  1. Copy of citizenship card or CDIB card for all household members. Driver license/ID or birth certification will be accepted for non-Native household members.
  2. Copy of social security card for all household members.
  3. Income verification for household.
  4. Utility bill
    1. Cooling Season (May – Sept.)
      Electric bill
    2. Heating Season (Nov.-March)
      Gas bill, propane bill, wood vendor information, electric bill (if total electric-must show usage to determine total electric)
    3. Utility bill must be in applicants name or a spouses name.

How To Report Fraud

Fraud, waste, or abuse with any Tribal Assistance application is illegal. Please feel free to report fraud by contacting our office. We carefully review your allegation and take appropriate action. However, we cannot provide information regarding the actions taken on any reported allegation. Federal regulations prohibit the disclosure of information contained in law enforcement records, even to the person making the allegation.
